De la plaine du Tarn aux Massifs forestiers de Sivens et de Gresigne, le territoire syndical est caractérisé par :
Une faible densité
près de 2 600 km de réseau pour près de 26 000 abonnés
Des sous-sols très variés
rocheux au nord, argileux dans la plaine tarnaise qui nécessitent des techniques spécifiques et qui sollicitent particulièrement les canalisations
Un relief complexe
qui impose un réseau de réservoirs important et une gestion de la pression de desserte complexe (nombreux surpresseurs et régulateurs de pression)
Malgré ces contraintes, l’Indice linéaire de perte en réseau global est de l’ordre d’1,1 m3/j/km sur l’ensemble de la structure en 2018 (considéré comme bon par l’Agence de l’eau lorsqu’il est inférieur à 1,5 m3/j/km), les ruptures d’approvisionnement sont exceptionnelles et liées à des événements accidentels (casse accidentelle ou liée à des mouvements de terrain.
